Now in theatres, the latest film adaptation of a comic book story, in particular an Alan Moore graphic novel. The film is "V for Vendetta" based loosely on the 1981 graphic comic series written by Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd.
The film is by the creative minds behind "The Matrix Trilogy", the Wachowski Brothers, and stars Natalie Portman (The Professional, Star Wars EP#1,2,3), Hugo Weaving (Matrix, LOTR saga), John Hurt (Elephant Man, Alien) and Stephen Rea (Crying Game).
The story is set in an "elseworlds" type scenario that depicts a futuristic(1998) facist Britain and it's opressed people. Enter "V" a radical rebel who is forced to resort to terrorist tactics to create chaos in this totalitarian government . During his one man war against the regime "V" rescues and befriends a political prisoner(Portman) who at first fears the mysterious avenger but comes to understand him resulting in an unusual alliance, together along with a resistance force they plan to bring anarchy to this corrupt government and cause it's collapse in hopes of restoring a more democratic society.
Alan Moore has totally disowned the film and is not known for his love of the film medium in general ,he also had a similar reaction to the adaptation of another work of his ; "From Hell" (2001) which starred Johnny Depp and Heather Graham. I for one haven't seen it as of yet , but the reviews are promising about the film and it's direction. To find out more about the film and the original comic series just type in V for Vendetta movie or V for Vendetta comic. ...and Mr.Moore, lighten up man, your a genius, well respected revered, relax and go see a movie some time....oops!
