On Tuesday, a day after rejecting Comcast's offer to acquire Disney, the Mouse House announced a long-sought deal to acquire the Jim Henson puppet characters and the lesser-known "Bear in the Big Blue House" property.
So...what does this mean for Farscape and other Henson properties???? Apparently, the deal involves only properties that Disney felt had a natural fit for its family-oriented theme parks and cable webs. Hollywood-based Jim Henson Co. will continue to operate its Creature Shops in L.A. and London and will maintain and exploit rights to its other film and TV franchises such as "Fraggle Rock," "Farscape" and "The Hoobs."
Also, the deal will not include the "Sesame Street" characters, such as Big Bird and Elmo, which are separately owned by Sesame Workshop.
We contacted our pals at Palisades Toys to see if their Muppet line would be affected by the deal...they are not aware of any changes at this time.
We will keep you updated as the Disney/Muppet deal is finalized.
