Since these are my first comments for this show, allow me to give my over all opinion of it first. Farscape gives us the answers to the eternal questions. “Who is the Hottest woman in the Universe?” Yes, Claudia Black. “Who is the one guy Cooler than Han Solo?” Yes, John Crichton. Finally, “What couple are most women praying for to get back together?” O.K., that’s Ross and Rachel, but D’argo and Chiana did make a nice match too. Farscape comes to us from the people at Jim Henson. Which is why it’s surprising to me that it is so good. Although I loved the “Muppet Show” and the first few movies, let’s face it, since Jim died, most of the projects went over like one of Fozzy’s jokes. For me, Farscape delivers what “The Dark Crystal” didn’t. An interesting story that doesn’t make me yawn. On a normal episode you get laughs, action, plot twists, and did I mention the Hottest Woman in the Universe. The special effects are among some of the best ever on T.V. CG effects wizards obviously live on Twinkies and Jolt Cola to crank out the number of dazzling visuals in a season. As for the live effects, the make-up is incredible. I can’t begin to imagine what actor Anthony Simcoe goes through just to put his face on. However on the other hand, I would love to know how to get the job of putting the grey make-up on actress Gigi Edgley for her Nebari skin tone. Overall, this is one of my favorite “Space” based shows of all time. Somewhere between, “Star Trek: T.N.G. and “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.”
As for this particular episode, forget most of what I said. Not really, it wasn’t horrible, just a little boring. I like when a show gives insight into a Character’s past. It makes the story feel more real. However, you really should make sure that the insight is still entertaining. Don’t have Crichton sitting in a small box for half the show, and then have it mean absolutely nothing. It was cool to learn about D’argo’s “Hyper-Rage” fits, but the flashbacks were not shot very well. The whole episode revolved around the crew’s need to find out what the creature was that attacked Crichton’s family. In the last two minutes of the show, they talked about it for about 45 seconds. Maybe there will be connection made later. However, since I just found out that the Sci-fi channel is planning on cancelling the show, they had better hurry. I do have to admit though, I wasn’t really looking forward to this episode based on the preview from last week. That being said, next weeks episode does look a lot more interesting and a little more action packed. I of course can always hope for a lot of Aeryn Sun. Meow. |
