Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 6 and Season 7 Print E-mail
    By Ross Welcrash

Two words describe this season of Buffy, “Thank God!” The Slayer has shaken off the “ripped from Heaven” mood swings and started kicking ass again. Don’t get me wrong, I thought that last season had merit. Most of the time Horror and Sci-fi shows touch lightly on a heavy emotional topic. They are usually criticized for being true to life. Now granted allow we’re talking about someone coming back from the dead, I think that it was portrayed quite well. I mean really, it would be hard to come back to life and jump right back into saving the world.

To offset Buffy’s P.M.S. (Post Mortem Syndrome), Joss Weadon gave us the season’s “Big Bad.” The Trio were not the most evil of enemies. They were not the most powerful of foes. They were the biggest threat of all, Nerds. Cheerleaders and Jocks take heed, that if you constantly poke fun at the D&D club members, they may just invent a way to turn your Mom into a sex freak. These bumbling minions of evil made being a Geek a good way to take over the world. Returning as a member of The Trio, was actor Danny Strong as Jonathan. A returning character as far back as you can go with the series. Sadly this season, Jonathan takes it the belly.

Last season had the light hearted baddies, until Warren decided to take it to the next level. After selling out his partners in nerdy crime, he shoved away all the magical mumbo jumbo and just went old school. He pulled out his 9 and busted a cap in the Slayer. Unfortunately for him, he also tagged Tara, Willow’s girlfriend. Shifting the balance of light hearted Evil to the Fully Monty of Naughty, Willow the dark side. Alyson Hannigan delivered the best Season Finale of the series with her transformation into the “hot smart mouthed lesbian witch.” Not since her scene in American Pie have I been so frightened and aroused at the same time.

Now onto this Season. It started off a little slow with return of Spike and a odd way. He has a soul, but he’s completely nuts, and oh yeah he lives in the basement of the High School. But in typical Weadon style, the last three or four minutes of the show are the crucial ones. This is the point that Joss loves to dump that little teaser of the real storyline for the season. We see spike kneeling in submission to......aw crap it’s Warren....no wait....double crap it’s the extremely lame Glory....no....what the hell is going on here. The answer, no idea. It wouldn’t be for quite some time into season seven that we find out that “The First” is back. The First, making a return as well from it’s previously kind of weak showing, is here to wipe out the Slayer Line. This means a lot of potential would-be-slayers are in town. Funny that a lot of replacement slayers are around the same time that Sarah Michelle Gellar is an uncertain return next year.

Which if we could talk about the replacement Slayer just for a moment. Who is the casting agent for these girls. Since the shows debut, I have seen Five different slayers. The two predominate ones, are Buffy and Faith. Both are Hot, Fit, and have a lot of personality. The potentials, really miss on at least two or all three of these traits. Except one, Kennedy, she in my opinion is the only real chance of pulling it off. She also, is kind of flirty with Willow, which could make for very interesting episodes, hint, hint Joss.
