    MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS Print E-mail
    By Shawn Surface

The final journey into the Matrix begins right where the previous film left off, with our post apocalyptic, messianic hero(Neo) unconcious and teetering on the brink of death...The third and final installment of the Warchowski Bros. groundbreaking technological trilogy is in essence the ultimate battle between good and evil, man and machine, love and hate, and one mans effort to achieve what seems impossible....peace. All the major characters have returned for one last cybernetic plunge including; Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne), Trinity (Carrie Ann Moss), Naiobi (Jada Pinkett Smith), Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), and Neo (Keannu Reeves) - the only notable change in the cast is in the character of the all knowing, all seeing Oracle, veteran actress Mary Alice replaces the late Gloria Foster who played the Oracle in the two previous films.

I'm not going to play the spoiler here except for to say that if you are a fan of the films and the story...you will not be dissapointed.

Written and directed by Andy & Larry Warchowski,  this final installment starts off grim, and gets grimmer as the movie progresses,  as what's left of the human race makes one last desperate effort to protect their last sanctuary, Zion, from being destroyed by the cold, calculating machines that have taken over the world. The film is beautiful in it's darkness, the poduction designers and conceptual artists along with a huge special effects team have created a visually intoxicating piece of cinematic art, and although the story is a familiar one with it's religious undertones it captures your interest nonetheless. The film moves fluidly, even at two hours and twenty minutes, and within it's short timeframe is, in my opinion, one of the greatest sci-fi battle sequences I've seen on the big screen since Star Wars. The story is basic a la "Christians vs Romans" but with a few surprises thrown in, including some surprising sacrifices...all in effort to achieve lasting peace, and to avoid total annihilation...so get yourself jacked in, and download once more into the Matrix...you won't be sorry...enjoy the show.
