Time to talk about Superman, well Superboy, OK not really though if you follow the comics. Although, that’s where you get into trouble. There are so many different versions of the Superman Time Line, anything is possible in the "Else Worlds" scenario. I mean since we’re changing the fact that Kal-El landed on earth in the late 80's instead of the late 50's or 60's, then storylines are fair game, right. The most precious of changes to me is the one I didn’t think I would like at all. Lex and Clark are friends? I know caught me off guard too. Here’s the thing, Lex and Clark have a very complex relationship as opposed to Luthor and Superman’s simple one. This is the most fragile fact that could destroy the series. If the writers will take a lesson from "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" and don’t peak to soon. The first Season seemed Hell bent on becoming the new X Files. Probably a good idea to get away from that. This season we’re seeing a lot more of the Superman story. But pace yourselves, I’m sure it’s exciting to write the stories that reveal Superman’s origins. Just take it slow and don’t jump into dangerous traps, like, having someone else from Krypton show up. That was a big hit when Justine Bateman came to earth as Dean Cain’s betrothed wife to be. Focus on Lex’s ascension to Evil and Clark’s journey to become a Hero. Don’t leap into the all the Super Villains that exist in the Superman World. Finally, don’t be so quick, to make Lex Luthor, well Lex Luthor. Keep him in that middle of the road mentality.
That said, Oh my God did you watch the last new episode! Best way to describe it, Da dada da da.... dum.......dum da dum. (For those of you who can’t read phonetic singing, this is the Krypton Theme from Superman the Movie, which they played in this episode as Christopher Reeve reveals big news to Clark.) This was one of the best moments on TV for me. The man, who to this day, is still Superman, makes an unforgettable appearance on the show for the next generation of the tale. Now many people had different views of how this came across. Some saw it only as hype to get people to tune in. If it worked, great, but to me the script for the episode lived up to the hype. Some can't bare to see the Man who portrayed "The Man of Steel" confined to a wheelchair. I can honestly say after meeting and talking with my boyhood hero, he is only more of a Hero to me. Most, I think saw it for what it was, a Kick Ass episode. I’m again nervous about the writer’s getting to excited and going off on a wild storyline. They went a little too far with the message from Jor-El and almost giving too much information for one episode. I hope they bring it back to Earth for the next couple of episodes, stay away from Krypton for a bit, and work on smaller things. One small thing they could do, an episode where Chloe sticks her nose in where it doesn’t belong, and somebody "Whacks" her. I mean really, who would miss her? We’ll have to wait as we are headed for some repeats. |
