What fun would it be if we had no murder in the world? Alright, so maybe it would be a pretty good thing, but is it really possible? In Minority Report, Spielberg wants us to believe that some kids whose parents were drugged up have the ability to see every murder that is about to be committed. So they pluck 3 of them out of reality, and plop them into milk, and hook them up to a computer, and they are able to see every single murder in the future, and sketch the names of the victim and the murderer into wooden balls. Umm… Alright… Kind of hard to believe, but once I got past this small detail, I thought it was a kick ass movie. Spielberg uses all of the latest and greatest special effects to make this a one of a kind futuristic sci-fi action thriller. He filled every hole in the cast, making sure every character was played by the best suited actor, but there was one thing that struck me as strange. In some parts of the movie, I thought I was watching a commercial. I think I counted 9 products, including the Gap, Lexus, Aquafina, Century 21, and American Express, just to name a few. Why would Spielberg sell out so bad with so much flagrantly noticeable product placement? Although I had beef with a couple things in this movie, they were looked over easily, because it’s such an amazing film, and it’s probably my favorite of the year. |
